My name is Tabitha. I am a single mother of two wonderful children (Nicholas 13 and Zakiya 8). I am a student at Brown Mackie College studying Criminal Justice. I moved to Tucson.in June 2011 from South Carolina. I am presently employed at Easter Seals Blake Foundation. In October 2011, we became homeless and I contacted Nadia, the President/Founder of Wings for Women. Nadia was able to help me and my children find shelter at the Salvation Army’s Hospitality House. Not a day has passed without Nadia calling to check on us. One morning Nadia (Wings for Women) picked us up and took us out to breakfast to get to know us and give us the foundation of the program and the different ways we could receive help. After that, she took us grocery shopping and made sure we had plenty to eat.
Nadia and the ladies from Wings for Women have really been a blessing to our family. The program has helped me in countless ways such as rent, food, utility assistance and have invited us to different function, working with the homeless in the park passing out toiletries, food, clothes and water. Despite the challenges that our family has faced, I was able to become a stronger person. I know that through the strength Nadia and Wings for Women have given me, I have found my own way. I can attest to the fact that through perseverance, success may come.
Throughout our lives, Nadia will always be one of my inspirations because she has taught me that anything is possible and that no matter the challenges ahead of me are, I can make it through.
